Nine Years!

It was nine years ago this weekend that Toni became our first dog-daughter.   She showed up at our friends home with no identification.  They tried to find her owner to no avail and were unable to keep her themselves.  When Jeff and I found out about her, we instantly brought her home and welcomed her into our family.

This is a scanned photo of cute little Toni as a pup …

and here she is today …

Growing up, Toni was rambunctious and mischievous. I still have a hole in my couch from her chewing puppy days. I can’t count how many times we have had to jump in the car to find her after realizing she had escaped the back yard from either digging under the fence or at times jumping/pulling herself over the fence. As a pup Toni struggled to make friends with other dogs, we have never returned to our local dog park after a incident when another dog made the mistake of getting a little too close!

She continues to be pretty high energy, but has slowed down a bit. She now enjoys hanging out with Penny and Otis and she welcomes a quick “hello” from our dog neighbors.  It makes me sad to see her mellow out.  It forces me to reflect on the fact that she will not be with us forever … I’m tearing up as it write these words. Toni has taught us patience, the importance of enjoying the moment, and brought pure joy and love into our lives. She is our first born, the #1 dog in our home, and the prettiest pup I’ve ever seen.
